Ice on the a/c line resolved solved repaired.

Image
Today during a residential service call in McDonough, we found what looked like a heat pump system with low Freon. After checking the air flow, it was determined that the coil was blocked. It was the worst we ever saw. The renter had put a tee shirt down the return. There was never a filter. The coil had dog hair and poo clogging it. Most of this was done on purpose. A clogged coil can block the air flow and freeze the lines. This is the same outcome a unit low on refrigerant has. You will have no cool air and the black line going into the a/c will be frozen. The ice you can't see is the problem. It was a solid block of ice in the air handler under the house. You can damage the blower motor so turn it off if you see ice. The coil was cleaned, and it is all working now. Reason #7 your air conditioner won't start.

Tripped Breaker Sometimes, a malfunctioning air conditioner may come as a result of a tripped electrical breaker. If the system isn't working at all, this is a likely reason. Even if the system is partially working, a tripped breaker could still be to blame, depending on the type of air conditioner you have. It may be that the outside unit has lost power while the inside unit is still working.  Flip the breaker back on to restore power to the unit and see if this fixes the problem. If the breaker trips again, refrain from restoring the power and contact an HVAC technician to identify the source of the problem. The a/c would not come on, resolved today

So the a/c would not come on. This is a good reason not to fix it yourself. I found the disconnect melted. You can get shocked or start a fire. Always call for service.  Turned off the power and looked inside the a/c. Everything was ok. Removed disconnect cover to find a melted mess. This should have tripped the breaker but didn't, making this a dangerous job. Call for service I'm sure you would have been shocked. Not me, I turn off breakers 1st on a call like this.  Replaced the disconnect and burned wires , tested the capacitor. I put a hard start on this one since it had a high amp draw at start up. This was $285 with service call labor and parts. Not all jobs are the same.
